Clover's Smart Tipping automatically switches customers from percentage-based tips to flat dollar tip amounts when an order subtotal falls below a threshold you set. This is useful for low-cost orders, where a percentage-based tip (e.g., 15% of a $3 coffee) can look too small to feel like a meaningful gratuity, so flat amounts pulled from your Clover tip suggestions are shown instead.
Note: Tips must be enabled on your Clover device and Clover web dashboard before Smart Tipping can take effect. See Enabling and customizing tip options below if you haven't set this up yet.
Setting your Smart Tipping threshold in Order Kiosk
- Log in to the Order Kiosk Settings on the Clover web dashboard.
- Locate Smart tipping threshold.
- Enter the dollar amount below which flat tip amounts should be shown instead of percentage-based ones.
- Save your changes.
To disable Smart Tipping, set the Smart tipping threshold to 0.
Note: Flat tip amounts shown under Smart Tipping are pulled directly from your Clover tip suggestions. Update the Clover-side tip suggestions to change the flat amounts offered.
Example: If your smart tipping threshold is set to $10, an order with a $7 subtotal will show flat dollar tip suggestions, while an order with a $15 subtotal will show percentage-based tips.
