EBT Split separates EBT-eligible items from non-EBT items into two transactions, so EBT customers can pay for each portion with the correct card. To get started, you'll need to assign EBT-eligible items to either a revenue class or a printer label named EBT. Once that's set up, press the EBT Split button at checkout to divide transactions accordingly.
Note: If a non-EBT item is scanned for payment on an EBT card, EBT Split will flag it before the transaction completes.
Option 1: Use a Revenue Class
Step 1: Create the Revenue Class
- Log in to your Clover Web Dashboard.
- Navigate to Items, then select Revenue Classes.
- Click Add Revenue Class.
- Enter a name for the class — use EBT so it's easy to identify.
- Save the new class.
Step 2: Assign Items to the Revenue Class
- Open the EBT revenue class you just created.
- Search or scroll to find the inventory items that are EBT-eligible.
- Check the box next to each item to link it to the class.
- Save your changes.
Alternatively, when editing an individual item or performing a Bulk Edit, you can select EBT from the item's revenue class setting.
Option 2: Use a Printer Label
Step 1: Create the Label
- Log in to your Clover Dashboard.
- From the left-hand navigation menu, select Items, then click Printer Labels.
- Click Add Label (or the + icon).
- Name the label EBT.
- Click Save.
Step 2: Assign Items to the Label
- Click the EBT label from your list of printer labels.
- Select Assign Items (or click Edit next to Items).
- Search or check the boxes next to the items you want to link to the label.
- Click Save.
What Happens Next
Once your EBT-eligible items are labeled or classed, press the EBT Split button at checkout to divide the transaction:
- Items marked EBT are charged to the EBT card in one transaction.
- All remaining items are charged separately, as a second transaction.
- If a non-EBT item has been charged to an EBT card outside of the EBT Split flow, EBT Split flags the transaction and voids it automatically.
Note: The split does not happen automatically — you must press EBT Split to initiate it.
